Why is the movie titled Roma?
I just finished watching the new Netflix movie Roma (2018). Do you know what its title means?
The word Rome/Roma is not mentioned in the movie as far as remember.

IMDB explains.
The film's events take place in 1970 and 1971, predominantly in the Colonia Roma neighborhood of Mexico City.
as does Wikipedia
The title refers to the Colonia Roma, a neighborhood in Mexico City
It has nothing to do with Rome...

The title is telling us where the story is set up.
I have not watched the film but a review on Economist.com have the following excerpt:
That Mr Cuarón shot a film set in 1970-71 in black and white gives it a sharper sense of history. It tells the story of his family and is set largely in the big modernist house they occupied in Colonia Roma, a comfortable middle-class neighbourhood in gentle decline (but recently re-gentrified)
Th city Colonia Roma is also called La Roma or simply Roma.
